Synopsis: Hosted, narrated, and executive produced by Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull; Goodfellas; The Aviator). Each episode of THE SAINTS focuses on a singular saint, including Joan of Arc, Francis of Assisi, John the Baptist, Thomas Becket, Mary Magdalene, Moses the Black, Sebastian, and Maximillian Kolbe.
THE SAINTS is a docudrama that will seamlessly weave together expert interviews, elevated recreations, and insightful narration delivered by the world-renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The documentary component will be driven by scholars who can provide details of the saints’ lives and contextualize them within the time and geopolitical situation in which they lived. Celebrities and people of faith from all walks of life will help dissect questions of faith in an accessible way, with energy and in layman’s terms. Martin Scorsese’s narration will both provide factual context that helps drive the stories forward, with the insight of a man who has grappled with the relationship between humans and their faith for his entire storied career. Where it exists, rich archival will add to the visual tapestry and provide a glimpse into the way people have related to these stories across the centuries. Lastly, dramatic recreations will bring characters to life and humanize them in ways that a painting, book, or sculpture never could. Dialogue-driven scenes will put viewers inside the perspectives of men and women who never set out to be saints, but nevertheless lived lives worthy of veneration.
